Random Facts About Me



  1. I am part of the 10% of people living with ALS who proceed with a tracheostomy.
  2. I can NOT smell due to no airflow through my nose with a trach unless during suction.
  3. I type and communicate with ONLY my eyes, in addition to driving my wheelchair.
  4. I am ambidextrous; I eat, write, and shoot basketball left-handed. I throw, kick, shoot a gun and bow, and swing right-handed. I can write, play basketball, and golf right and left-handed.
  5. Only 10% of the world is left-handed, and only >1% are ambidextrous. 
  6. I have blonde hair, blue eyes, and a red beard, 1% of the world's population has those traits. Thanks to the MC1R gene.
  7. I can still feel everything head to toe, despite being paralyzed.
  8. I sleep in the same spot ALL night long without moving.
  9. Despite being quadriplegic, some bodily functions work as the following: my brain, eyes, and the ability to use the bathroom.
  10. I have NOT used a phone in 3 years.
  11. I have NOT eaten or drunk by mouth in 2 years.
  12. I ONLY changed ONE diaper between my sons’ lives due to my physical limitations. Yes, I wanted to.
  13. My sons have NOT heard my voice. I have NOT experienced an actual conversation with my sons.
  14. If I could eat or drink again, my first meal would be the grilled turkey club with rosemary mayo from Varsity Club in Morgantown, WV, and multiple Alpha Blonde lagers.
  15. If I could move again, my first movements would be to pick up my sons and hug and kiss my wife.
